The consulting practice is run by Dr. Chris Bell BSc, DVM, MVetSc, DACVS. Dr. Bell has developed a special interest in sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries in the horse and dog. Dr. Bell's extensive background in sports related injuries in the horse lead him to be called upon for consultation, diagnosis and treatment of sports and musculoskeletal related injuries in dogs as well. Dr. Bell works closely with several veterinarians and veterinary specialist to diagnose and treat dogs with various types of muscle, tendon, ligament and joint injuries. Dr. Bell is not a small animal surgeon and does not perform any surgery on dogs.

The consulting is aimed at providing ultrasound at your dog's regular veterinary clinic and providing advice for treatment of the various conditions we encounter. Dr. Bell's experience with horse related muscle, tendon, ligament and joint related conditions has translated well to providing similar diagnostics and therapies across species to the dog.

Dr. Bell's service provides several exciting new therapies to the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in the dog. This includes non-invasive shockwave therapy which is a machine that generates a pulse wave of energy into the damaged tissues which allows for increased blood flow, decreased nerve sensation and recruitment of healing cells to the area. This therapy is used in combination with a rehabilitation program laid out by your regular veterinarian or in consultation with other specialists. This treatment has been used on arthritis of the elbow, shoulder, hip, back and stifle joints as well as used for treatment of soft tissue injuries of the Achilles tendon, biceps tendon and supraspinatus tendon.

Another exciting service offered by us is platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP/ACP). This is a process where a small amount of your dog's own blood is taken and the platelet cells within the blood are concentrated while your dog waits and then are injected back into the dog at the site of injury. This treatment has been used for Achilles tendon injuries, biceps tendon injuries, supraspinatus tendinitis, bicipital bursitis and can be applied to any damaged tendon or ligament in the dog.

We can also offer stem cell therapy for the treatment of damaged tendons and ligaments. This modern therapy used the dog's own stem cells from their bone marrow to regenerate damaged tissues in the body.
